I have been intrigued at the final look of the river when the hydro at Hafod y Llan is running flat-out. Saturday morning I remembered to look. The hydro is going though its final shakedown. I had to pop over on Saturday morning to look at why it would not start-up. The loss of the grid earlier in the week due to the storm has something to do with it. Over the phone i was talked though how to open the top spear valve. We were away again. We have some final fettling with a gasket on one of the pipes and thunderbirds should be go.
But whilst I was there i took an image of the river in full flow and the hydro in full flow. 470 litres per second going through the pipe and hydro. As you can see the river in terms of aesthetics looks good. This is a very simplistic view as water abstraction is based on ecological need which is well covered in the licence. I was as concerned on the impact on the look of the river…judge for yourself
