Today we hosted over 140 art students from Coleg Menai in Bangor. All with one thing in common. They are looking at our renewable energy projects and intend to use a multitude of art media to engage, inspire, discover and generally explain what goes on under the surface in the National Trust as far as sustainability and renewable energy is concerned. Their task is to use art to deliver the twin outcomes of delivering on the ‘well i never knew that” outcome and “if they can in those locations then we all can”
The day started off at Plas Newydd and understanding what it takes to power a mansion. This included looking at the current situation on oil and looking to the future plans for the marine source heat pump. We also focused on the energy efficiency work and recently completed PV work. From here we went to the completely different environment of the Snowdon hill farm at Hafod y Llan and its renewable energy demonstration aspect but also the work of the ‘big hydro” which stared today.
Overall we have agreed to host an exhibition next year of their work and that they intend to use this challenge as their end of year public exhibition. The challenge is the convey how these special places can play their part in renewable energy generation but also the very difficult subject of using less energy. I have a feeling that its going to be an exciting few months and all manor of media will be developed. Graphic design to models, photography to filming. looking forward!
