The 3 watt clear LED candle lamps were tested for visible light output (in Lux), UV emission and end cap temperature using the National Trust test protocols; traditional 25 watt tugsten filament lamps were tested for comparison.
Measured lux output was lower from the LED’s than from the traditional tungsten filament lamps, with an average of 300 lux at 20cm from the LED lamps compared with 500 lux at 20cm from the tungsten filament lamps. However, to the eye the LED lamps did not appear any less bright than the 25 watt tungsten filament lamps.
No UV was detected from any of the LED lamps compared with an average of 62µW/lumen from the tungsten filament lamps.
The temperature of the heat sink in the base of the LED lamps did not exceed 60°C in any test, and the exposed metal end cap did not exceed 30°C. By comparison, the end caps of tungsten filament lamps regularly reach temperatures in excess of 100°C.
